Knee Replacement
OVERVIEW
Knee replacement, or knee arthroplasty, is a surgical procedure performed to resurface a damaged knee joint. During knee replacement surgery, metal and special plastic components are used to replace damaged parts of the knee joint to restore mobility and reduce pain.

When is a knee replacement indicated?
Knee replacement surgery is typically indicated to treat pain and instability in the knee that has failed to respond to conservative treatment. Osteoarthritis is the most common reason for surgery. Patients with severe knee pain that affects their quality of life are candidates for knee replacement.
What does knee replacement surgery entail?
Depending on your condition and medical history, Dr le Roux will perform one of the followings surgeries:
Partial knee replacement
During partial knee replacement or unicompartmental knee replacement, only the damaged portion of the joint is removed and replaced with artificial components. Generally, incisions made during this procedure are smaller, so patients experience less scarring and can expect a shorter recovery time.
Robotic knee replacement
Robotic knee replacement is performed with the assistance of a robotic device. This device allows for more precision and balance when working on the small areas of the knee. The robotic system will accurately measure the knee and allow Dr le Roux to operate more efficiently.
Revision knee replacement
Revision surgery is necessary if your first knee replacement surgery fails to treat your symptoms or if complications have occurred. Dr le Roux will access the previous surgical site and replace the artificial components to better suit your needs.
